Malaria is one of the largest causes of morbidity and mortality in the Democratic Republic of Congo, leading to a dramatic loss of life and productivity. As a result of increasing resistance to traditional antimalarials in various parts of the country, the government is in the process of changing its malaria treatment policy to focus on artemisinin-based combination therapy.
