This is the report of the 2nd Conference on NGO Partnerships for Reproductive Health
in Africa which took place in Nairobi, Kenya from 16 to 18 April 2002. In
pursuit of the implementation of the ICPD-POA adopted in Cairo in
1994, CAFS has taken a lead role in bringing the NGOs operating in
reproductive health together to form effective partnerships for greater
efficacy and improvement of the quality of reproductive health in sub-
Saharan Africa. At the 1st Conference on NGO Partnerships held in 1999, CAFS was mandated to follow-up on the implementation of the recommendations, which included facilitating the work of the Task Force set up at the Conference. The Task Force
completed its first assignment on the situation analysis of the NGOs in sub-
Saharan Africa in the year 2001. CAFS and the Task Force hosted the 2nd
conference on NGO partnerships for Reproductive Health with a focus on
strengthening partnerships for governance and leadership development and as a forum for disseminating the findings of the study on NGO governance in sub-Saharan Africa. The three main themes of the Conference were Governance, Leadership and Management with the cross-cutting issues of Accountability, Sustainability
and Gender.
