Institute of Community Medicine, Madras Medical College

The Institute of Community Medicine at Madras Medical College is a premier teaching institution in the state of Tamil Nadu. It has an expert faculty which teaches Community Medicine to Undergraduate and Post graduate medical students. Nursing and Physiotherapy students are also being tought community medicine. In addition to the regular lectures as a part of the curriculum, innovative methodologies of teaching in the form of multimedia presentations, project works and interactive sessions are held in the Institute. The Institute also fosters research by encouraging students to undertake public health research. The Institute networks with other departments in the medical school in conducting seminars, symposia and workshops on major public health issues.

1) Release of a monthly issue of a technical newsletter, AIDS SCAN as a capacity building measure of government doctors.
2)The Institute hosts a comprehensive HIV/AIDS information centre which includes Books, Journals, CD Roms, Auditorium sevices and a telephone hotline to provide information on HIV/AIDS to Stakeholders.
