Additional Information
The Institute developed the Standard Days Method (SDM)™, a new natural method of family planning that is more than 95% effective when used correctly, as described in the results of a clinical trial published in the May 2003 issue of the journal Contraception. Women with menstrual cycles between 26 and 32 days long can use the SDM to prevent pregnancy, by avoiding unprotected sex on days 8 through 19 of their cycles. Most women using the SDM find that CycleBeads™ a color-coded string of beads, help them identify the days of their cycles when they can get pregnant and the days when pregnancy is very unlikely. This visual aid also helps them monitor their cycle lengths so they will know whether the SDM is appropriate for them. The SDM is an easy method for service delivery programs to provide, and has been successfully introduced in a variety of service delivery settings.
