Hindu diet plan

Organic Food SourceIf you are into the religion, the first thing you must know is that Hindu diet strongly associates with vegetarianism. But you will find that some Hindus practice the diet differently according to their regions. However, there is a red line. Hindu diet encourages its practitioners to eat sattvic food more than the rajasic and tamasic.

Sattvic food

Sattvic food is a category of the best food. If a person eats sattvic food, he/she will feel rejuvenated and energized instantly. It also has to be fresh, nutritious, fibrous and minimally processed. Hindu diet believes that overprocessed foods are not suitable for the body.

What belongs to this category are whole-wheat, rice, corn, millet, beans, all fresh fruits, and vegetables. As long as those foods are not heavily salted and overly-cooked, they still fit in the sattvic category.

Rajasic food

Rajasic food includes all the other meals that can over stimulate our taste buds. Meats with the umami taste belong to the rajasic category. However, rajasic does not represent the bad food that will harm your health directly after you eat it.

Hindu diet believes that eating rajasic food most the time will affect a person’s personality into becoming more ambitious, competitive, and egoistic. People who take rajasic diet is also deemed to lack good-quality sleep.

Tamasic food

OvercookedTamasic food is any kinds of food that can disrupt a person’s mind. Overly processed foods, such as junk food and coke, are thought to be tamasic. Strong liquor like gin, vodka, whiskey, and the likes also belong to this category.

What Hindu diet try to promote is the awareness of the three food categories. If a person eats too much of one category, he/she must counterbalance the diet with the sattvic food.

Hindu also promotes fasting as a ritual to please the Gods. A Hindu diet practitioner must do fasting at least once a week. The fasting itself can take either a half of or the whole day. During the afternoon, a break is allowed, but only for plain water or juice.

Christian diet plan

Bible DietThere are many versions of Christian diet that have got promoted by famous inspirational figures, such as Rick Warren, Jordan Rubin, and Kristina Wilds. And we will outline the common terms between all of them, instead of specifying only into one diet. But if you are interested in The Shepherd’s Diet, you can read the review online. You will learn that the diet is derived mainly from the New Testament and the book of Exodus.

God has cleansed all the meats, and that is probably the interpretation of Peter’s enlightenment on Acts 10:11 – 12. And thus it leads to the belief that Christians are now allowed to eat porks, catfish, and shrimps. However, if we refer to the Levitical law, those mentioned meats are all prohibited. But we will leave that as a matter choice because porks, catfish, and shrimps do have nutritional benefits.

From Warren program, we can learn that abstaining from processed foods, caffeine, tobaccos, and meats for 40 days can cleanse our body and soul. Fasting from foods that tempt us the most is the spirit of Christian dietary program for weight loss.

Rastafarianism

RastafariThe Rastafarian diet resembles both Christian and Hindu diet. Eating of unclean meats is restricted, if not prohibited. Pigs and shellfish belong to the scavenger category and thus tainted. But the dietary plan that makes Rastafarian diet different is the permission to use marijuana for the religious rites. Herbal drinks, such as coffee and tea, are also not regulated for they are from nature. Chemical use in growing staple foods is highly prohibited. Chemicals taint the natural growth of veggies, which can be harmful to the body. Therefore, in Rastafarian diet, the natural quality of the food is the most important.
